Auntie Heather and the Creepy Basement of DOOM!

I’ve never had an office. When I first started writing from home, my computer was on a small desk in the living room. I got a bigger desk, we moved, but even there, I was in the dining room. Another move…and here I am, back in the dining room again. It sucks writing from here – it’s at the center of the house, with all its noise and business. And I get distracted easily. So for a few months now, I’ve been looking for an office to rent.

Only the offices I’ve found have been too expensive, sub-par, too big, too small, too far, or just plain icky. Plus, I’ve got a lot of travel planned, which would seriously cut down on the time I’d actually be in the office. Plus a million other reasons, which have lead me to…

The basement. I’m moving to the creepy, unfinished basement, complete with stud walls and cobwebs. Ew.

Still…creepy has its charm. I just wish I had an office.

Whine over. Auntie has work.

By week’s end, I’ll be blogging from the Creepy Basement.

Unless a spider eats me or something.

Auntie, I don’t see why you think it’s creepy. The creepiness would give you added inspiration to your stories.

  2. Hannah Marie says:

Creepy? Sounds awesome Auntie, I’m jealous. Can I live in your basement? Promise to be super quiet while you write xD

And I agree with David. It could be really good inspiration for your books.

  3. Tabitha says:

    oh no, not spiders! O.O

  4. Starr says:

that sounds so awesome. I wanna live there…pep, that sounds like me; living in the basement os a writer forever. I bet is you tried, you could find Elvis somewhere in there.

  5. IllusionaryMaya says:

  13. Nick says:

I hate spiders! I think you should change the minion bling picture, cause boys wear minion bling too. And, I found that Auntie is smarter than we give her credit for. Stokerton = Bram Stoker, the author of Dracula. Bathory = Elizibith Bathory, and woman from the 1600′s that was CRAZY about blood, and killed many people just to put it on her skin to make her look younger.

  14. Jared says:

that is really cool aunty I am really glad you are enjoying yoursef by the way can come down here in new orleans, Louisians      ;-) :| :x                :???: :?: :!: :!: :!: :?:

  15. Jared says:

Yeah nick I must agree with you that is crazy but how long have you known this. I’ve learned that while was eight

  16. rain says:

    P.S. spiders r cool!

  17. Brit O'Connor says:

i have an awesome spider story!!!
ok so last year in 6th grade we took this three day feild trip to a nature center called Atwood (best place ever!!!!!!) so we had just gotten back from our midnight walk trying to find the wolf(my team find him first!!) but anyway me, sam, sarah, katlyn, and jessie were all in the overflow room down stairs so there was cobwebs and spiders and creepy(just like ur basement auntie heather) anyway my friend sam is absolutly terrifid of spiders
so in the middle of the night sam screamd and startd kickin around every where. now this woke me up out of a dead sleep so i sat up really fast which was too fast cuz i ended up on the floor.
i asked sam, “What the heck are you screaming for?!?!?”
Sam responds, “There’s a spider in my bed and it was trying to attack me! but i kick it away and i think it’s dead now so im okay.”
finally before i stumble back in to bed and tell her in a sarcasitc way, “Well im sooo glad that the spider didn’t eat you or hurt you in anyway sam; i mean you didn’t fall out of bed or anything!”
she just laughed and then went back to sleep
well thats my story and it’s sort of long and im srry for wwasting all of ur time but i had to share lol : )

I finished the advanced copy of ELEVENTH GRADE BURNS a few days ago and it was BEAST!! You have a way of telling a lot of info and still leaving a lot to be answered. YOU ARE AWESOME, Auntie!

  19. Priscilla says:

Today I was thinking about Vlad
and then I looked at the date
    and then I realized…
THE NEXT BOOK IS COMING OUT SOON
and I squealed like a little girl

    XD

  20. Jesse666 says:

  21. Marissa says:

OH NO!!!!! NOT SPIDERS!!!!!!!!!!!!! I got a button from hot topic, saying “the only thing to fear is fear itself… and spiders”. and it’s TRUE! im sorry about the move, but, like some peeps said, it could b some good inspiration 4 u. GOOD LUCK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!    ;-)

  22. Taylor Elizabeth says:

    Ohmygosh,
Creepy? If its as creepy as my old basement, i am completely sorry,
if its still a little less creepy,
    youll still be scared xD
    But still, poor auntie!
I wish you luck on your journey to the basement(:

  23. William says:

EWW Spiders! But think about the possibilities of the basement. You could add some nice carpet, paint the room a nice color like white or green, add a celing fan and heater, and get rid of the icky spiders. Also add some fake plants, put your desk down there and add like a mini kitchen for when you get in the zone you don’t have to leave for food or drinks. Or you could just get rid of the bugs and make the basement like a dungeon with chains on the walls and mabey a fake skeleton in the chains and some bones in the corner. Keep writing Auntie!

  24. RJ says:

Oh yeah, unfinished basement dwelling FTW o/

  25. April says:

At least you have a basement. We don’t.

We have a crawlspace. About four and half feet tall at its highest, two feet at its lowest. Old pipes, cobwebs (no spider is crazy enough to try to catch anything down there) and dust. Lots and lots of dust.

    I love it. (i know i’m weird.)

I say auntie pimps out her basement in Vampire-chic  . (Assuming it doesn’t take from writing time! ) And show us!! Best of luck with the writing-in-the-basement.

  29. Violet_Swigger says:

Basement sounds like good inspiration (Even with cobwebs – did you know they stop bleeding?). Maybe you could model it after the room in Bathory High or Vlad’s old house. All sorts of ideas are popping up in my head! I don’t have the awesome writing skills you do but I’m all for anything artsy.
