The UK, Australia, My Awesome Husband & Stephen King

Wednesday, March 31st, 2010

I love happy news! The UK/AUS sale of The Chronicles of Vladimnir Tod is official! Check out this fangtastic press release!

I couldn’t be more pleased about this, Minions. I’ve been waiting a LONG, LONG time for foreign sales, and it may have taken me until I reached the end of the series, but it’s totally been worth the wait. And the folks at Penguin UK/AUS hve been so friendly and amazing already. I’m sure we’ll be very happy together. :)

Almost as happy as I am with my wonderful husband, who somehow managed to pull off the miracle of all miracles. If you’ve heard me speak at events, you’ll know just how much this gift means to me.
carrie

That’s right! It’s a first edition copy of Carrie by Stephen King. And EVEN BETTER, it’s signed! And EVEN BETTER THAN THAT…it’s signed TO ME, by the man himself!!!

It says “For Heather – With best wishes and admiration for all your hard work. Oh! And with love from Paul, and my niece, Kathy – Stephen King 3/25/10 P.S. I didn’t have a trust fund either :)

I cried when Paul gave it to me. I cried when I read Stephen’s inscription. I cried again today when I saw it on my table. It just means so much to me. This was the book, and the author, that showed me what my dreams were, that made me see what I wanted to be when I grew up. Stephen King changed my life forever, and I’m eternally grateful. And then yesterday, when Paul gave me that book, Stephen King changed my life again. My husband is the greatest husband alive, and I owe him my life for being so good to me, and getting it – really getting it. (Love you, Paul!)

And none of this would have been possible without Stephen’s niece Kathy and my ever-helpful agent, Michael Bourret. You people ROCK!!!

It’s an intriguing irony that the book that kick started my dreams is about a wildly unpopular girl in high school…

Big News! Auntie Heather is Taking Over the World!

Tuesday, March 23rd, 2010

Minions, we all know by now that I, your fearless leader, have entrusted you with one goal: grow the Minion Horde. The reason? Why, world domination, of course! It’s all I’ve ever asked of you, all I have ever wanted. And I have huge news on our quest to taking over the world. Here’s a hint:
Vlad_Guard_2 Vlad_Aussie

Any guesses?

VLAD IS GOING GLOBAL!!! Penguin UK/AUS have acquired the rights to publish The Chronicles of Vladimir Tod (or CoVT, as we all like to call it)! Which means several cool things:

1. We now have a better opportunity than ever to gather Minions from the UK, Australia and New Zealand.
2. I will be touring in both places.
3. We get to see Vlad in fashionable hats from around the world.

This is a big accomplishment, Minions, and all due to your hard work and determination to spread the Vlad love. CELEBRATE YOURSELVES!!!

I hunger for HUNGER!

Monday, March 22nd, 2010

Being an author is the coolest job on the planet, no lie. But the really cool part is the perks of being friends with other authors. One of the perks? Getting to read stories before they’re published. Especially stories like HUNGER by my good friend, Jackie Morse Kessler.

Jackie is an incredible person and an extremely gifted writer. We’re also critique partners (she definitely got the short end of that stick), so when Jackie came to me with this idea, I was SQUEALING WITH JOY over the concept of this book.

HUNGER is about an anorexic girl who becomes the new Famine, of the four horsemen of the apocalypse.

Then she wrote it and I got a chance to read it. It’s beautifully written, full of action, and will appeal to both guys and girls. Trust me on this.

HOLY NEXT BIG THING, BATMAN.

Minions, I don’t often say this, but MUST pre-order this book. It’s incredible. Just look at this cover!

It’s headed your way this Fall. Here’s where you can pre-order:

As if the cover of TWELFTH GRADE KILLS wasn’t enough…

Monday, March 8th, 2010

We have new covers, Minions!

Vlad_8th_reprint4Vlad_9th_reprint4
Vlad_10th_reprint4Vlad_11th_reprint4b
Vlad_12thGradeKills_LAUNCH[1]

And how utterly FANGtastic is it to see them all together like this???

For you collectors, get ready – because these covers are set to go into printing fairly quickly, which means the older covers will no longer be available. And there will be new Vlad to collect! SQUEE!

In other news: Auntie Heather has decided that Amenti needs a furry friend. Also, I’m hard at work on the second round of edits for TWELFTH GRADE KILLS. Have you pre-ordered your copy yet???

EDITED TO ADD: Minions keep questioning my explanations for the smiley colors in the last post. Fear not, Minions – you are absolutely right about the eyes! I was just explaining the symbolism for each book…

It all comes down to this.

Wednesday, March 3rd, 2010

Here it is, Minion Horde. It’s time. And I know you’ve all been waiting for it. It’s time to share with you the phenomenal cover of TWELFTH GRADE KILLS. Many people have asked me what the colors mean with each book, or if they mean anything all. Here are my meanings:

EIGHTH GRADE BITES = red, because red is the color of blood
NINTH GRADE SLAYS = blue, because blue is cold and Vlad visits Siberia in this book
TENTH GRADE BLEEDS = purple, because purple is the color of bruises (and Vlad gets many in this book)
ELEVENTH GRADE BURNS = orange, because orange is the color of fire
and TWELFTH GRADE KILLS = green….because of a secret that you’ll discover in this book.

And now, without further ado, I give you….TWELFTH GRADE KILLS!

Vlad_12thGradeKills_LAUNCH[1]

Do you love it? I do. And you can see Vlad clearly now. As the covers have changed, Vlad has become more and more exposed…just like in his story. I hope you like it!

And now, the best part (though that’s debatable). The flap copy (or in layman’s terms, the official description of the book)! WARNING: IF YOU HAVE NOT READ ELEVENTH GRADE BURNS, YOU MIGHT NOT WANT TO READ THE FOLLOWING, AS IT CONTAINS POTENTIONAL SPOILERS!!

It all comes down to this.

Vlad’s running out of time. The Elysian Council has given him weeks to live, and that’s if the Slayer Society doesn’t kill him – along with all the citizens of Bathory – first. Then there’s the issue of Vlad’s father, who may or may not still be alive after all these years, and oh yeah, that tiny little detail in the Pravus prophecy about Vlad enslaving Vampirekind and the human race. So much for college applications.

In this epic finale to Heather Brewer’s heart-stopping Chronicles of Vladimir Tod, dark secrets will be revealed, old friends will become enemies, and warm blood will run cold. Just be careful it isn’t yours.

EDITED TO ADD: TWELFTH GRADE KILLS will be released on September 21, 2010. You can pre-order it on Amazon or Barnes and Noble right now!

Also, that gorgeous boy on the cover is Lawrence Prince.
