So. There’s this.
Wednesday, April 11th, 2012Joss’s Journey Continues!
Tuesday, March 27th, 2012So. Maybe you’ve read FIRST KILL, the first book in my vampire slayer series, The Slayer Chronicles. Maybe you liked it. Maybe it made you hunger for more vampire butt kicking action! Maybe you’ve been dying to know when the next book would be released. Well, Minions, your Auntie Heather has answers. And, perhaps even more awesome, she has the cover and title of book #2!!! Which she shall share with you….(wait for it)….NOW.
Yes, my Minion Horde. Book #2 of The Slayer Chronicles is SECOND CHANCE. And here’s a bit about it:
The stakes are life or death
The summer after Joss failed to kill the vampire Vladimir Tod, he gets a second chance to prove himself as a Slayer. He is sent to New York City to hunt down a serial killer that the Slayer Society believes is a vampire. It is up to Joss to lead his Slayer team, and through their detective work, they discover that there are actually four vampire brothers who are on the killing rampage. Joss must use all his skill to save the innocent people of New York City from the murderers. Joss’s status as a Slayer depends on it.
So…what do you think? I just love the cover. Joss is more confident now, and I love how the colors of TSC follow CoVT. I love this book! And I hope that you will too. You can now pre-order it at Barnes & Noble and on Amazon. GO GO GO!!!
Remember that time when Vlad and Joss were bunnies…and British?

In Which Auntie Heather Loses Her Mind…
Tuesday, November 1st, 2011Forgetful Auntie is Forgetful
Wednesday, October 19th, 2011Oh, Minions. How your Auntie Heather’s head doth spin as of late. So much that it’s launched from her neck, hit the ceiling and SPLATTED on the floor. I’m not sure what’s worse: that teh kittehs keep swatting at the pile of goo it’s become, or that Jacob keeps poking it with a stick. Nevertheless, your Auntie’s been living inside a crazy tornado, waiting for some semblance of normalcy (heh) to return to her life.
AND I COMPLETELY FORGOT TO TELL YOU ALL ABOUT MY TOUR.
Yeah. I’m ~that~ brain dead lately. I went on a two and a half week tour of AWESOME, came home, and didn’t even mention it in my last blog! Where is my head??? (Oh right…it’s a pile of goo on the floor…)
The tour was…in a word…nommy. So nommy that I nommed on its amazingness and it nommed right back. It was so much fun! So many of you came out to see me (many of whom were Master Minions), and I loved each and every hug, treasured each and every gift, and I just want to thank you, Minion Horde, for being there for me, and for giving me some love, when I very much needed it. You guys all rock my world, and it’s my pleasure and honor to rule over you.
Things here are good. I’m busy working on the second round of edits for The Slayer Chronicles #2 (due October 25th), and working on an outline for the second Legacy of Tril book (after Bloodbound). Plus, we’re getting ready for some pretty major website/forum changes soon. Speaking of the forum…if you’re new, and need a friend, I urge you to reach out to Mina, Tod, Pravus, and K8. They’re there to be your friends. Trust me.
Are you still reeling over the graphic novel news?? I am! I’ve known for some time, but when Penguins say “SHHH!!!! Don’t tell a soul!!!” I’m forced to super glue my lips together and hold on to all that awesomeness until I might burst. But I’m so relieved/thrilled that we can talk about it now! Are you geeked? I can hardly wait to see more artwork and share it with you. It’s going to have an effect on fan art, I imagine. But we shall see.
Ooooh! I can has great news! Who wants to see the family trees of both Vlad and Joss? You can! Head on over to Hastings’ website and click View the Family Tree off to the right side of the page. It ROCKS! And so does Hastings for helping make it happen.
Speaking of Joss…what are you guys thinking of FIRST KILL so far? Spoilers welcome in the comments – just be careful reading them if you don’t want secrets spilled!
I’m off to do that whole typey-typey thing I do. And, of course, to relish in the hoodie weather we finally have.
Hugs and lil skull cookies for all!
The Slayer Chronicles Cover and Title Reveal!
Monday, March 7th, 2011You’ve waited for it. I’ve teased you mercilessly. You’ve pleaded, begged me, “Pleeeeeeeeeeeeease, Auntie Heather! Pleeeeeeease show us the cover of the first Slayer book! Pleeeease tell us the title!” And I have been a cruel, merciless overlord, and have not shared these things with you.
Until now.
Minions. Today I am going to tell you the title of the first book of The Slayer Chronicles, and reveal to you its cover. Both of these things have been a long time coming.
But before I do so, I’m afraid I have to tease you just a little bit more, with some fangtastic fun facts about the book (which will debt September 20, 2011):
- There are 30 chapters in this book.
- It is the darkest book (so far) that I have ever written.
- You will meet Cecile.
- You will see two characters from CoVT besides Joss & his parents.
- The book mostly takes place in the Catskills in New York.
- The book opens with a not-to-be-missed prologue.
- The first chapter is titled THE NEXT GREAT ADVENTURE.
- The last chapter is titled A SLAYER’S GIFT.
- The first sentence of the thirteenth chapter is: Setting explosives the day before had been immeasurably entertaining–and terrifying–but when Joss woke to a note from Uncle Abraham that said to meet him in the clearing, he was certain that this day was going to be drastically different than yesterday in tone.
- The last word in the book is soon.
Welcome, my Minion Horde, to the world of Joss McMillan, to his series – The Slayer Chronicles, and to the first book of five. The title is FIRST KILL. And this is its cover.
Seek it out, Minions, and pre-order as soon as you can, because this is one journey you won’t want to miss!
Vlad-y Goodness!
Tuesday, February 8th, 2011Minions, we have cool stuff. Have you noticed? I mean, we have a special place to hang out and get Vladtastic Minion-oriented things (VladTod.com); we have our own radio station (Crypt Radio – also found on VladTod.com); we have our own store (highschoolbites.com).
And now we have even more cool stuff!
I wanted to bring these to your attention, just in case you haven’t noticed yet. You can now download the Crypt Radio app on iTunes! So grab your iPhone, iPod Touch, iPad, or what-have-you and download it, because the music is so Miniontastic that it will MAKE YOUR HEAD EXPLODE.
Er. In a good way. (but just in case, bring a mop)
ALSO. There’s new stuff on highschoolbites.com! Stuff like this:
Not to mention this shirt that I MUST OWN NOW:
There are a bunch more things on there, so go check them out.
I’m still holding out for a pillow that looks like FANG (which, if you didn’t know, is our mascot vampire smiley’s name – awwwww! Isn’t he adorable? Who’s a cute widdow bloodsucker? You are! Yes, you are!).
In book stuff news: I just turned in the first book of THE SLAYER CHRONICLES, and my editor loves it. Just a few more tweaks and it’ll be ready for copy edits. (And the Minions rejoiced…) Plus, some day soon, I will have an amazing cover and new title to share with you! BUT…not today.
BLOODBOUND is finished (well, first-draft finished, anyway, which means it needs a lot of work before it’s ready for your wondering eyes, Minions) and my agent and editor are all kinds of happy about it. So we are THRILLED, Minions. Book stuffs is a-okay for the moment.
ALSO, I’m working on a blog post to update you all on our world domination progress. Prepare to be STUNNED.
But for now, I’m drinking a blood bag and celebrating the moment. Join me?
Guess where I’m blogging from, Minions??
Monday, January 17th, 2011After about five months of waiting on contractors, waiting on a painter guy, waiting on a wallpaper dude, waiting on furniture deliverers, I am proud to announce that I am FINALLY blogging from my new office in completion! It is so gothtastic! I’m planning to snap some pics this week and do a big blog on how cool it looks, but for now, just know that I am surrounded by lovely, lovely black, and happy as can be. I got a new desk – and I like it – it’s just not my old desk. My old desk felt a certain way, and everything had its place. The new desk…well…we’re still getting to know one another.
As for what I’m accomplishing with this new desk, I’m well into the second round of revisions for the first book in THE SLAYER CHRONICLES. I say “first book” because I’m not loving the title BEGINNING. (What am I gonna call the third book in the series? MIDDLE? Ugh…) But I haven’t come up with anything new yet that reflects what this book is all about. I have had peeks at what the cover will be though, and it looks awesome! I can hardly wait to see the final cover (and share it with you, my faithful Minion Horde, of course).
My editor is reading BLOODBOUND (or will be soon), so those edits will likely come fast on the heals of TSC1 (THE SLAYER CHRONICLES #1). So the desk will definitely be seeing a lot of work. But that’s okay, because I have discovered something about myself, Minions. Something I never realized.
I like work. I like being busy. As long as I’m busy with the stuff I want to be busy with. I love writing, even like editing, so that stuff I can do a million times over. But man, do I need my no-people-around-me downtime. I like to refer to myself as an extroverted introvert: I can be outgoing and social when life calls for it, but unless it does…STICK ME BACK IN MY CAVE!
My wallpapered, lovely black cave.
Anyhoo, I was thinking about a few hints I could give you all about what to expect on September 20, 2011 (!!!) when TSC1 debuts, and here’s what I’ve come up with:
1. You will see two characters from CoVT beyond Joss and his family in this first book.
2. TSC is much darker than CoVT.
3. In this book, you will learn more about bugs than you ever really wanted to know.
4. TSC1 has a higher deathcount than the first four CoVT books combined.
5. You will meet Cecile.
Any questions?
What’s With the Silent Blog??
Friday, September 18th, 2009*sigh*
Oh, Minions.
If you had any idea what your dear Auntie Heather is going through right now, you might just lose your precious little twisted minds as well.
My schedule has been ramped up, that is to say, changed so that I can meet my publisher’s quicker-version of a publishing schedule. (Does that make sense?) See, initially, ELEVENTH GRADE BURNS was going to be out in Summer 2010, which meant like August. But because I sold both the first three books of BLOODBOUND and all five books of THE SLAYER JOURNALS, my schedule had to shift in order to accomodate the new titles. So that moved ELEVENTH to February 9, 2010. As a result, my writing schedule has been intense. TWELFTH GRADE KILLS was due to my editor on March 15, 2010. It’s now due around Halloween 2009. So…argh. My days have become a routine of wake up, shower, dress, eat, write, write, write, eat again, write, write, write, sleep.
For the curious, TENTH GRADE BLEEDS will come out in paperback January 2010. ELEVENTH GRADE BURNS will debut in hardcover February 2010 (paperback won’t be until August 2010). TWELFTH GRADE KILLS (this is the one I’m writing right now) will be available in hardcover September 2010 (and in paperback April 2011).
The first book of THE SLAYER JOURNALS will debut September 2011 and the first book of BLOODBOUND will be available in October 2011. So it’s going to be a very Heather Brewer kinda year in the bookstores.
So…that’s why I’m exhausted, and hardly blogging, and absent from the forums currently.
Auntie needs a nap.
But it’s all for you, Minion Horde! And that makes it worth it.
Jiggity-Jig!
Tuesday, September 1st, 2009I’m hoooooome! Actually, I was home Sunday night, but only just got around to blogging. Stress level = way, way lower.
My weekend away was wonderful. I love New Orleans – it’s one of my fave places in the world. It’s the first time, however, that I did anything really tourist-y. The family and I went on a Haunted History tour with Midian Von Thorne. It was simply amazing. We stuffed ourselves with great food, bought amazing stuff and came home wishing we never had to leave.
Pretty typical.
And now, Auntie is hard at work on TWELFTH GRADE KILLS. I’m also busy writing up a sneak-peek of ELEVENTH GRADE BURNS for you Minions. I know I mentioned it a while ago and promised I would post it, and I will! Plus, I’ll post the publishing dates for the remaining Vlad books, and the first book of BLOODBOUND, as well as the first book of THE SLAYER JOURNALS. But for now, I’m writing.
What are my Minions up to?
